About the Role
The employee filling this position will split their time between their primary client facing responsibilities (part time); proposal responses and other internal writing initiatives; and surge support for technical writing needs on other contracts as needed.
Work directly with Project Managers and clients to deliver high quality written deliverables for the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Support, perform and quality assure the authoring, and compliance with requirements, of Congressionally Mandated Reports (CMR) and Congressional Tracked Reports (CTR).
Review written products for broad consistency with the legislative requirement, consistency with VA style guides and Department criteria for CMR and CTR products.
Revise written products for grammar, formatting, and clarity. Document review and editing requires short turn around, usually within 24 hours.
Develop effective key messages and technical writing for the VHA Program Office and their stakeholders.
Track multiple writing or report-based projects across all stages of the project lifecycle. Document, track, and report status utilizing Microsoft SharePoint and other systems as required.
Develop outlines and drafts for review and approval by technical specialists and management ensuring that final documents meet applicable contract requirements and government regulations.
Ensure compliance with VA Style Guide, as required, and ensure the nuanced/advanced formatting elements for all documents, such as proper tabs and indentations for hierarchical numbered sections, section headings that link to headers and tables of contents, etc.
Assist in the administration of program and project activities, such as meeting coordination, accurate documentation of minutes and action items, developing and updating documents as required, and drafting and organizing communications.
Research highly technical subject matter as needed.
Communicate effectively in written and oral formats to various situations and audiences.
Assist in the creation of executive level reports and dashboards.
Exercise excellent interpersonal skills in meeting with authors, senior reviewers, and subject matter experts.
Requirements
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree.
At least 5 years of experience, preferably with a professional services firm supporting consulting engagements, primarily in a technical writing role.
Advanced MS Word and MS Excel skills and proficiency with other Microsoft Office and Adobe products.
Demonstration of strong technical, executive level, and proposal writing skills.
Strong editing skills, including knowledge of copy editing.
Preference for candidates to be local to the Washington DC Metropolitan area with the ability to commute locally for meetings, as needed (post-pandemic).
Ability to pass a government clearance.

Exceptional writing and editing skills, demonstrated by writing samples and/or experience as a technical writer/editor.
Strong communication skills – with the ability to manage, facilitate, and lead meetings with senior executives and subject matter experts.
Strong attention to detail with the ability to review own work and the work of others for accuracy.
Demonstrated leadership, analytical, organization, interpersonal, project management, and communication skills.
Experience in task management; organizing, directing, and coordinating the planning and production of all activities associated with assigned tasks.
Ability to provide exceptional client service, research and resolve issues, and demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning.
Ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a team environment with all levels of client and Consensus Solutions staff.
Preferred Additional Skills:
Project Management Professional (PMP®), Lean Six Sigma, or other relevant certifications are highly desirable
Demonstrated technical capabilities and professional knowledge of federal acquisitions and experience writing proposals.
